Lille have secured their place in the Europa League play-offs with a hard-fought victory over Nantes at Stade de Lorient on Saturday evening.

The match was a closely contested affair, with both teams displaying excellent attacking football. However, it was Lille who emerged victorious, thanks to goals from Jonathan David and Yacine Brahimi.

David, who had been heavily linked with a move away from Lille this summer, proved his worth by scoring twice in just over 15 minutes of play. The first came early in the second half, when he headed home from close range after a well-worked corner.

Just two minutes later, Brahimi added a second for Lille, finishing off a slick move that saw him collect the ball from a cross before slotting home.

Nantes were unable to find any answers as the game wore on, and despite some late efforts from the visitors, Lille held on to claim all three points.

The win means that Lille will now face either Ajax or Shakhtar Donetsk in the Europa League play-offs next month. A win against either team would see them qualify for the group stages of the competition.

For Lille manager Christophe Galtier, the victory is a big boost ahead of the upcoming campaign. "We worked hard today and we're happy with the result," he said. "We know there's still work to do but we've got a good team and we'll be fighting until the end."

Overall, it was another solid performance from Lille, who showed why they are considered one of the best teams in France. With David and Brahimi continuing to impress, the future looks bright for the club.
