Ligue 1 side Lille have announced that striker Jonathan David has extended his contract at the club until 2027, with a significant salary increase. David's contract was set to expire at the end of this season but the forward has agreed to stay with the French giants for another four years. The deal is worth €6 million per year and will see him earn €24 million in total over the next six seasons. The news comes as a huge boost for Lille ahead of their return to European competition next season. The team finished fourth in Ligue 1 last term, missing out on Champions League football by just one point, and they were also knocked out of the Europa League semi-finals by Sevilla. David, who joined Lille from Dynamo Kiev in 2019, scored 23 goals in all competitions last season, including 18 in Ligue 1. He also played a key role in helping the team reach the Europa League final, where they lost to Manchester United. The striker's new deal means he will be one of the highest-paid players in France, and it shows just how highly regarded he is at Lille. His success at the club has helped them attract other top talent, such as midfielder Eduardo Camavinga and defender Victor Varela. Despite his success, David remains humble and grateful for the opportunity to play for Lille. "I'm really happy to extend my contract," he said. "It's been a great journey so far and I'm looking forward to continuing to progress and help the team achieve our objectives." The club's president, Christian Herta, also praised David's commitment and talent. "We're delighted to keep Jonathan at Lille for another four years," he said. "He's been a fantastic addition to the squad and we're confident he'll continue to perform at a high level." |
